Yulin Bamboo Products Reach 100+ Countries

In the first half of 2024, Yulin City exported 1,670 batches of bamboo and grass products, with a total value of 141 million yuan, representing a year-on-year growth of 60.27%. Behind this strong growth is the continuous expansion of demand for bamboo and grass products in international markets and Yulin City’s ongoing efforts to support the transformation and upgrading of traditional advantageous industries like bamboo and grass products.

Bamboo and grass product processing is one of the Yulin area’s traditionally advantageous and characteristic industries. Bobai County is the “Capital of Weaving Crafts in China.”

Opportunities and Challenges Coexist

According to Yulin Customs statistics, there are currently 52 registered bamboo and grass product manufacturing enterprises in Yulin, with 32 located in Bobai County, accounting for more than 60%. These mainly include bamboo, rattan, willow, and grass craft decorations, wooden furniture and kitchenware, plywood, medium-density fiberboard, and other products. These products are exported to more than 100 countries and regions, including Europe, South Korea, and Japan.

Most bamboo and grass weaving companies in Yulin are small and micro enterprises located in towns and villages, with relatively weak technical capabilities. Given the high threshold for exporting bamboo and grass products, many companies either engage in domestic trade only or rely on foreign trade companies from other provinces for export, thus not contributing to Yulin’s foreign trade performance.

Tailor-made solutions and Industrial Upgrading

Given the current situation of the bamboo and grass products industry, Yulin City aims to accelerate innovation and development in bamboo processing, bamboo home furnishings, bamboo decorations, and bamboo crafts. The city plans to leverage cross-border e-commerce and “live streaming sales” as marketing strategies to promote the transformation and upgrading of Bobai’s bamboo, rattan, and grass-weaving industries.

In recent years, Bobai County has been vigorously building a light industry park specializing in forestry furniture (bamboo, wood, and grass) to promote the clustered development of the weaving craft industry. Large companies like Huangtu Company are continually investing in new production bases.

Unblocking the “Ren and Du Meridians” of Export

“We now have stronger momentum to develop by unblocking the ‘Ren and Du meridians’ of the overseas export market,” said the head of Guangxi Bobai County Fusen Craft Co., Ltd. From January to June this year, the company exported 8 batches of rattan products, valued at 1.281 million yuan, a year-on-year increase of 231%.

To address the issue of weak trademark layout in weaving companies—where products go abroad but the enterprises themselves do not—the 3rd LINGAN International (Guangzhou) Home & Garden Expo provided a valuable platform and window for enterprises. Companies should fully utilize this platform, actively participate in exhibitions, and deeply explore various opportunities and resources brought by the expos to accelerate their internationalization and enhance their competitiveness in the global market.
